M Kathryn Thompson
M. Kathryn Thompson lives in San Francisco Bay Area where she finds inspiration for her work from the natural beauty in the small town of Fairfax. She works primarily in scratchboard airbrushed with transparent acrylic ink on top. She graduated from the Art Institute of Seattle and has been an Illustrator for 30 years.
"Working in Scratchboard is a joy to me. I work in reverse, scratching away the black ink to reveal the white underneath. On top of that I airbrush transparent acrylic ink. I paint right on the original Scratchboard so I can scratch away highlights in the colored areas. I work small and have my images enlarged as Gicleé prints."
Kathryn's work has been used for beer, wine and food packaging, logos, cookbooks, editorial, brochures and posters. Her illustrations have appeared on the cover of The Pacific Sun, The Yoga Journal, The California State Parks Foundation and Natural Pages.
